About Us

A note from Mikki Lewis:

On May 8, 2008 my daughter Hadley Lewis, who was six at the time, had a grand mal seizure in the middle of her kindergarten class. Having no family history of seizures, my husband and I were devastated that such a thing could happen to our perfectly healthy little girl. Little did we know (or could ever imagine) the journey that awaited us would be and continues to be full of heart wrenching challenges.  Hadley was diagnosed with epilepsy, and soon after she was diagnosed with Dyslexia, memory problems, delayed fine motor skills, as well as, other learning differences. In the spring of 2012, she began having fragmented seizures in addition to the absence seizures, which was her original diagnosis. My husband and I have had three different pediatric neurologists tell us that they have no idea why this is happening or what we can expect for her future. As her parents – we have a real problem with the unknown!

Epilepsy is a brain disorder which causes abnormal firings of nerve cells that race through the brain causing seizures, loss of consciousness and, for some, brain damage and even death. The mortality rate for people with epilepsy is three times greater than that of the general population, and the risk of sudden death is twenty-four times greater. CURE (Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy www.cureepilepsy.org) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to finding a cure for epilepsy by raising funds for research and by increasing awareness of the prevalence and devastation of this disease. I became involved with CURE because of Hadley. I am passionate about supporting their research to put an end to epilepsy, however, in order to increase the focus on epilepsy research, funding is needed.

In an effort to raise awareness of epilepsy and funds for CURE, I am chairing The 5th Annual Cupid Chase in Senoia, GA February 4, 2017. The Cupid Chase will consist of a 15K and a 5K timed run, 1 Mile Walk of Encouragement, and lots of other fun activities for the whole family! To register for The Cupid Chase, you can fill out a race form and mail it, or you can register online.  Awards will be given to top finishers in different age levels, and all participants who register before January 13th will receive a high quality, long sleeve Cupid Chase t-shirt.

With your support, our community can come together and create an awareness of how many lives are impacted by epilepsy. Funds raised through The Cupid Chase will be donated to CURE to help provide promising scientific research to eradicate this disease.

I hope to see you and your family at The Cupid Chase!
